Listening to the the word “bling,”  makes you think of big, flashy, over-the-top, sparkling jewelry worn by professional athletes rappers and hip hop artists .  The word bling was originally a Jamaican slang that described the sound that comes from light bouncing off of sparkling jewels.  Bling’s cultural debut came from a 1970s Christmas song by the Silvertones, a Jamaican musical group.
