First, rubies have closed association with passion. Its red color symbolizes pure blood. In the orient, it is even referred to as the blood of Mother Earth. With this reputation, rubies can be good substiture to diamonds, as it is regarded as a stone of love and passion, radiating energy and power to the relationship. Its fire and blood elements are said to have power to restore and revitalize life.
Second, it may have lost its original value as time passed by, but it is good to know that in Medieval Age, they were considered more valuable than diamonds.
Third, there are man-made counterparts that are affordable yet as lustrous as the natural one. This is true. There are rubies that are created in laboratories under the same heating condition simulated along with the necessary elements to produce this man-made versions.
Finally, it may sound superstituous, but there is nothing wrong believing in the powerful force of rubies to warn off evils and misfortune. In fact, rubies as amulets were once part of the cultural history of mankind.
However, if you desire to get the expensive ones, original rubies can be easily spotted. Using the same parameters being used with diamonds, it helps to use the 4Cs. Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat. With the color element, the more visible the purple color is, the lesser the value of the ruby. People has to bear in mind that true rubies have two or more than two colors when viewed from different angles, and it usually has flaw in its natural shape. The man-made rubies looked perfect than the original rubies.
